 Hearing Loop

Hearing or telecoil loops are becoming more widely used in buildings where acoustics are poor such as churches, banks, post offices, theatres, ect. A hearing loop works on the basis of converting sounds heard within the hearing loop, into radio waves which can be directly received by the hearing aid when it is in the ‘T’ program. Digital hearing aids can either have a telecoil or microphone and telecoil program, the latter allowing the user to hear what is going on outside the hearing aid loop system. A quartz watch works on the same basis as a hearing induction loops and by placing a quart watch to the hearing aid while it is in the ‘T’ program is a good way to check if the hearing aid is functioning properly. Hearing loop systems have many benefits as they can be used in conjunction with your own home for conversation, or for television and telephones. Be aware that hearing aids do not all come as standard and the use or need for a ‘T’ program should be discussed with your dispenser at point of sale.
