A man in Huntingdon (Cambridgeshire) said in his own words today that he “was shocked to the core that his hearing was as bad as it was without her realising it” ,when he was told by his hearing aid dispenser, “you have a hearing deficiency that has about a 70% loss at the higher tones of speech”.
The man was so much in denial over her hearing loss that he insisted that his wife act as a witness to a free field hearing test, (a test where sounds are presented in a room at a level for ALL to hear), in order to prove the hearing aid dispenser’s statement.
“This is only too common”, replied the hearing aid dispenser. “This is exactly the reason why it is important to have your hearing checked on a regular basis, so that people are made aware of any problems they may have”
There are thousands upon thousands of people living their lives without any knowledge that their hearing has slowly and gradually been taken away from them without them knowing. At first it doesn’t seem too obvious to those around them but slowly and surely as the hearing loss deteriorates. the problem worsen and the symptoms show more and more.
We can only come to terms with a hearing loss if firstly it is recognised and secondly it is explained, corrected and dealt with, ultimately by using prescription built hearing aids.
