The Coronation Street star Rula Lenska who recently admitted to needing to wear a pair of hearing aids, took time out from her busy work schedule to visit the Headquarters of the Hearing dogs or the deaf.
Rula met people from the puppy training centre to see how much work is involved in training the dogs to alert deaf people to various sounds in order to provide a better quality of life.
She said: “It’s been heart-warming to meet people associated with the charity – everyone I’ve met – including the dogs – are so completely dedicated to making deaf people’s lives easier and happier.”
The dog she met at the centre was her name sake Rula, a King Charles cavalier dog puppy who was named after Rula.
The hearing dog charity have around 750 working hearing dogs across the UK and it costs £45,000 to cover the cost of each hearing dog. They are reliant on charitable donations and fundraising activities by their network of supporters.
