Unitron Hearing, a Canadian hearing equipment maker, have incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary in India as part of their marketing strategy.

Unitron Hearing India will soon launch a brand new collection of Unitron digital hearing aids, including the latest blue tooth pairing products, in he domestic market.

Teaming up with 500 audiologists across the country, the company giant plan to market their products hoping for an 8 per cent market share in the initial year of operations.

“Compared to the saturated developed markets where growth is less than four per cent, the emerging markets are growing faster. We are now focusing on emerging markets like India, China, South America and Eastern Europe for future growth,” said Ken Liew, director of new business development of Unitron Hearing.

Rakesh Ojha, managing director of Unitron Hearing India, said that Indian hearing aid market is growing at 20 per cent and the shift from analogue pocket hearing aids to digital equipment is happening rapidly, especially in the major cities. Consuming around 350,000 annually, the higher noise pollution levels and use or mobile phones are increasing the incidence of hearing disability.

“Almost 50 per cent of the market is still with analogue units. But the Union and state governments, which procure these units for their various donation programmes, too, have started taking steps to shift towards digital units. This opens up a bigger market for us,” he said.
