Phonak have recently renamed the Audeo Range (receiver in the ear technology) to the Phonak Audeo Spice, this is because the Audeo Spice has the latest technology platform as is in their flagship hearing aid, the Phonak Ambra. The Audeo Spice Range still has 3 levels, the Audeo Spice 9, Audeo Spice 5 and Audeo Spice 3. Be very careful when buying your hearing aids as some companies are offering 50% off hearing aids but actually fitting the older technology instead.
The Audeo Spice 9 has the capability of communicating in tandem with each other, allowing the hearing aids to constantly adjust with each other to gain the optimal speech when in noise. This technology is only available in the Audeo 9 and is worth serious consideration if you have an active lifestyle.
The Audeo Spice 9 hearing aid has 20 programmable channels and is available in the Smart or Mini style, the Mini being smaller but not having blue tooth capabilities.
The Audeo Spice 9 is a small behind the ear (BTE) hearing aid with the receiver in the canal (RIC), this is the preferred choice for people with a reasonable perception of volume (low tones) but poor clarity (mid to high tones). However if more amplification is necessary for low tones, the Audeo Spice 9 can be fitted with a closed custom tip and an optional power receiver to aid more severe hearing losses. The available features include;
Ultra Zoom – This enhances speech by removing more unwanted background noise using directional microphones.
Stereo Zoom – The 4 microphone system incorporated in 2 hearing aids, creates a narrow band which eliminates other conversations when in large groups. This feature is a tried and tested must for those wishing to hear more clearly in noisier situations.
Zoom Control- A binaural speech processing method that focuses on speech regardless of sound direction and streams it into both ears giving a clearer understanding of speech. Ideal for when trying to hear whilst in a car as an example.
Flexi Control – Allows the user to alter or enhance sounds in more demanding situations.
Sound Recover- Allowing inaudible sounds to be shifted into lower channels to help maximise speech, where normally unheard .
Streamers for television and mobile phones are available at an extra cost giving more flexability to the user. Remote controls can also be added and these extras come at a reasonable price.
